Ginger Devaney has joined Guberman // Appleby Immigration Lawyers as a US immigration attorney. She is licensed to practise law in Illinois and is registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant with the Law Society of Ontario.
Ginger understands the US immigration process from the inside. She spent several years at US Citizenship and Immigration Services, where she served as a Senior Asylum Officer and adjudicated complex petitions. Having served as a decision maker, Ginger knows what officers are looking for, where applications commonly fall short, and how to present evidence so that the strongest points are impossible to overlook. Reviewing and gathering information to support detailed and complex arguments is the work she enjoys most. Focusing on details that matter and building them into a clear, persuasive case is where Ginger excels.
Before her time at USCIS, Ginger represented immigrant survivors of domestic violence in humanitarian and family-based immigration cases, work calling for patience and care with clients facing very difficult circumstances. She has also presented on immigration law to students, social workers and police officers. Ginger’s strong communication skills let her explain complicated rules in plain terms to her clients.
She has lived in Georgia, Boston, Chicago, China and now Canada, so she has firsthand experience with respect to settling into a new place and dealing with immigration applications personally.
