  • Canada Introduces Enhanced Caregiver Pilot Programs

As the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot programs will close on June 17th, 2024, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced new caregiver pilot programs for foreign national caregivers seeking to come to Canada. These initiatives aim to facilitate foreign caregivers’ continued entry into Canada and create a direct path to permanent residence.

Key Features of the Caregiver Pilot Program

Under the new pilot programs, home care workers will be granted permanent residence upon their arrival in Canada. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to work for organizations providing temporary or part-time care to semi-independent individuals or those recovering from injury or illness. This streamlined pathway ensures caregivers can secure employment with reputable employers and swiftly obtain permanent resident status upon their arrival.

Eligibility Criteria for Candidates

Candidates interested in joining Canada’s home care sector through these pilot programs must meet specific eligibility criteria, including:

  • Attaining of a minimum level 4 on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).

  • Possessing of the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma.

  • Demonstrating recent and relevant work experience.

  • Providing evidence of a full-time home care job offer in Canada.

Details of the Program will be released in due course.
