- Canada signs new youth mobility agreements with Finland and Iceland
The Government of Canada and Finland have joined forces to establish an innovative Youth Mobility Arrangement, and a similar agreement followed shortly after between Canada and Iceland. The agreements, which were unveiled on May 19th and August 4th, 2023, open exciting doors for Canadian and Nordic youth aged 18 to 30 (Iceland) and 35 (Finland), enabling them to embark on transformative journeys of work and exploration in each other’s countries for a duration of up to 12 months, with an option for renewal. The International Experience Canada work permit program will open to nationals of both Iceland and Finland in 2024.
- The agreements provide Canadian and Icelandic/Finnish youth aged 18 to 30/35 with opportunities to work and explore in each other’s countries for up to 12 months, with potential renewal.
- There are three work permit categories under International Experience Canada that will be available to Icelandic or Finnish citizens: Working Holiday, International Co-op (internship) and Young Professionals.
For applicants from Iceland, it is important to note that there is a limit of 120 spots available. With the addition of Iceland and Finland, the International Experience Canada work permit program now includes 38 countries. The IEC work permit program can be a valuable tool when considering work permit options for Canada.
